The Faculty was originally called the Faculty of Arts and Technology, and later in 1951 it was renamed as the Faculty of Engineering. The Faculty of Engineering was reorganized in April, 1998, and five departments were newly established: the Departments of Urban Environment Systems, Design and Architecture, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, Information and Image Sciences, and Materials Technology.
